Established in 1956, the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound has been owned and operated by family for three generations.

We are here to greet you with some of the best lobster in the world. Brought to you from the cold, clean waters off Mount Desert Island our lobsters are always healthy and fresh! Our lobsters are cooked in sea water over wood fired cookers.

Everybody knows that the cold North Atlantic waters of Maine's Coast yield the sweetest, most succulent and delicately flavored lobsters to be had. But it's the quality of care after they leave the ocean's natural environment that ultimately counts. That's when our expertise makes the difference.

And so does our location!

Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound is just over the bridge from Mount Desert Island. With Frenchman Bay nearly at our doorstep and Western Bay almost in our backyard, we can, and do use natural seawater to "season" our lobsters before shipping. And, we're also just a short distance from the wharfs by refrigerated trucks. Being so close to the source of the daily catch, our lobsters are subject to little or no stress in initial transport, resulting in a healthier, livelier product.

It also means we have the best of all possible situations for proper care and quality control. On site we have constructed a custom designed system to scientifically simulate the lobster's natural environment. By pumping actual fresh seawater from our own shores into specially formed holding tanks supported by a simulated bio-filter system, we maintain constant cleanliness with sparkling, polished seawater so vital to sustaining the lobster's natural goodness, quality and delicacy of flavor. All this is housed in an enclosed refrigerated building for controlled temperature.

Now, prior to being transported to our facility, each lobster is hand inspected for health at the dock site. Then, as they are accepted, they are graded for size from chicks to selects. (Customers can also request "boat-run" shipments of random weights, if preferred.)

On arrival at Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound, they are immediately placed in the holding facilities to "season" for a minimum of 24 hours. As orders are filled, each lobster is again hand selected and inspected for injuries or other possible damage, health, meatiness, and, last but not least, the aesthetic importance of appetite appeal. (Since 1956, we have owned and operated one of the area's most popular and successful restaurants, featuring lobster, so we are sensitively aware and responsive to a diner's expectations.)

Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound is also well known for its other competitively priced ocean-fresh shellfish products. Each order is carefully packed for absolute freshness, quality and delicacy upon arrival:


Fresh scallops. From mid-November to mid-April we ship daily landed in-shore scallops.
Live soft shell clams. Our plump, meaty steamers are harvested daily, year 'round.
Live mussels. Maine's wonderful mussels are harvested from March to December.


Fresh crabmeat. Picked daily, delicate leg or body meat is available from April I to January 1.
Jonah crab claws. Fresh always. Available from April I to January 1.


Fresh picked lobster meat. Picked daily and always available all year 'round.

We ship nationwide anywhere in the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii) and deliver crate stock regularly by overland refrigerated transportation in the U.S. and Canada, within a 500 mile radius of our location. Beyond 500 miles we ship by air in specially designed insulated cartons with "cushion" packing to avoid damage in shipping.

All orders are shipped with fresh seaweed.


We're located within 38 miles of Bangor International Airport, and within one mile of Hancock County Airport.
